Publication date: June 15, 2023

Are you ready to explore the intersection of technology and creativity? Join us for our second EU Code Week webinar, where we will dive into the fascinating world of computer-generated poetry using Scratch. Prepare to be inspired and amazed as we unravel the art of writing poems through live coding! Interested? Then register here.

In this engaging webinar, we will explore various poetic styles and the challenges they present. Led by our expert instructor, David Hellam, a seasoned high school computer science teacher, we will embark on an exciting journey of poetic discovery. David has extensive experience in teaching computing courses in different countries, including Kuwait, the Bahamas, and the UK. He has been a Code Week Ambassador for the Czech Republic since 2014.

During the session, we will start with haikus, the elegant three-line Japanese poetry form. Through live coding with Scratch, we will demonstrate different approaches to composing haikus. Witness how technology can augment and enhance our creative expression!

Moving on, we will delve into limericks, a playful and humorous form of poetry. David will guide us through the process of crafting limericks using Scratch. Discover how code can help bring a touch of wit and whimsy to your writing.

Lastly, we will explore acrostic poems, where the first letter of each line spells out a word or phrase. Together, we will tackle the challenges of this particular style and learn how Scratch can assist in creating captivating acrostic poetry.

Hands-on coding experience

Throughout the webinar, we will share interesting examples and engage in a hands-on coding experience. Get ready to experiment, learn, and stretch your creative boundaries with fellow participants.

To facilitate the sharing of ideas and projects, we have set up a dedicated Scratch Studio. Join us in the studio to exchange thoughts, showcase your work, and collaborate with other like-minded individuals.

Don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity to discover the fusion of coding and poetry! Mark your calendars for Wednesday, 21 June 2023, at 17:00 and reserve your spot for the EU Code Week Webinar: Computer-Generated Poetry with Scratch. We look forward to seeing you at the webinar!
