Another successful edition of the EU Code Week Spring School!
Publication date: April 26, 2022
EU Code Week has successfully wrapped up the third edition of its Spring School, following the previous ones in 2019 and 2021.
From 4th to 9th April 2022, over 40 teachers from Europe and beyond gathered online to explore different approaches to teaching coding and to exchange ideas on the future of Code Week.
The courses kicked off with a context-setting session, where Annika Ostergren Pofantis, Code Week coordinator at the European Commission, welcomed participants and introduced EU Code Week together with Tommaso Dallavecchia from European Schoolnet., . During the first day, teachers also had the chance to become familiar with CS Fundamentals and Code.org, creating their own Hour of Code activities!
The following days focused on inclusion and barriers to teach coding, coming up with ideas to tackle these, and on local training courses. Guest speakers, like Maria Tsapara showed an excellent example of how to set up coding courses for teachers at local level- in Greece in her case. Other guest speakers included members from the communication Team of Code Week who led a lively workshop in which participants practiced creating content for social media.
The course finished on a Saturday morning, wrapping up the group projects and sharing action plans for Code Week! We look forward to seeing the group projects take off, and to launching other local training courses.
If you are interested in this course, keep an eye on our communication channels! We regularly offer training opportunities for teachers enthusiastic about coding.
