Coding sessions for all

The Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST) https://www.mcast.edu.mt/ is an important partner of EU Code Week Malta https://www.facebook.com/CodeEUMalta/.  Every
year MCAST IICT collaborates with eSkills Malta Foundation www.eskills.org.mt  during EU Code Week by offering 15 days of free coding sessions open to all.

These 2-hour sessions take place every day during the 2 weeks of EU Code Week and have gained so much in popularity that the sessions are usually overbooked. People from all walks of life apply to attend these sessions. Attendees ranged from housewives to students to father-and-son teams!

 

 

Who are Nicholas, Kevin, Zvetlana, Tristan, Andre, Nathanial, Christabel, Martin, Michael, Axel, Iris, Osama, Joseph, Lawrence, Andy and Anna Marie? We are proud to state that they
are MCAST’s alumni, second and third-year bachelor of science (honours) students in software and multimedia software development. They are the people delivering the EU Code Week sessions! MCAST IICT together with eSkills Malta Foundation see it as a good opportunity for these students to put into practice their knowledge of coding.

MCAST IICT provides key training for successful employment in Software Development, Multimedia Software Development and Computer Systems and Networks.  With the Multimedia Software Development stream, you will learn how to create games, mobile apps, fresh looking websites whilst the software development stream you will learn Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Computer Security and Software Development. If you are more oriented to hardware and servers, then the Computer Systems and Networks stream will teach you about Virtualisation and Cloud
Computing, Data Center operations, Networking Technologies and Information Security.

 

 

Hands-on coding sessions with various themes were offered to the general public. The sessions took place at MCAST ICT Department between 5 and 20 October. Some of the themes tackled were:

  • Introduction to Windows Forms with C#
  • Introduction to Mobile App Development
  • Using WordPress to develop a website
  • Create your own WordPress Plugin
  • Game Development with Scratch
  • Introduction to Blockchain
  • Understanding Augmented Reality
  • Unity Game Development

These sessions aim to give the attendees experience of coding through simple and practical sessions.

 

Whether you
create a website, simulate the traffic on our roads, or create an online game,
coding is everywhere. It is a way of looking at the world; an enabler and a
discipline, a life skill for the digital era. Learning to code is a powerful
way of exploring ideas and creating new solutions for work and play.
