It’s not too late to join EU Code Week!

We’ve all been there — trying to cram for a big exam the night before, finishing an essay minutes before deadline, or practising answers in your head on the way to an interview. Or the worst — a stress dream where you’re running late for school or that job interview.  

That last-minute rush can be stressful, but here’s the good news — when it comes to EU Code Week, it’s not too late! EU Code Week is in full swing after starting this week, but whether you’ve been too busy or just haven’t found the right idea yet, there’s still time to jump in and make a difference with a quick project.

Quick Code Week project ideas — no prep needed!

Don’t worry if you haven’t had a chance to prepare for a Code Week activity — we’ve got a few simple, low-effort ideas that you can put together in no time. And you never know, any of these smaller ideas can spark inspiration for a bigger future project.  

1. Create a coding challenge: Set up a fun challenge for beginners. Ask participants to solve a puzzle or build a simple game. No fancy equipment required — just creativity.
2. Code with Scratch: Use the coding platform Scratch to guide young coders through building animations or interactive stories. It’s perfect for a classroom or family setting.
3. Tech talks: Host a quick, informal talk about coding trends or other tech-related stories in your workplace, school or online group. Even a 20-minute discussion can spark curiosity, and maybe lead to a bigger project. 
4. Digital skills workshop: Run a quick workshop for absolute beginners to introduce them to basic coding or digital tools like HTML, Python, or app development. You’ll be spreading the word about all things tech, and developing your open teaching skills.  

How to get your project ready

Even if you’re working on a tight deadline, you can still make your Code Week project shine. Here’s how:

1. Get inspired: Start by browsing our site for ideas. You might get inspiration from featured activities, blogs, and the resources section, with a range of assets, from teaching materials to dance challenges.  
2. Check feasibility and assign roles: Once you’ve got your idea, make sure it’s doable. If you’re working with a team, quickly assign roles — who will handle promotion, who will lead the project, and who will oversee all other details about the activity?
3. Promote your activity: Let your network know! Share your project on social media, email colleagues, and make sure your school, organisation or friend group is on board. Don’t forget to add #EUCodeWeek.
4. Add your activity: Don’t forget to register your activity on the Code Week site! Head to our Add activity page to get it officially listed. It only takes a few minutes, and you’ll be part of the growing community of thousands across Europe.
