From 9 to 12 July, 25 primary schools teachers, selected from the network of EU Code Week Leading teachers within the 28 EU member states, will gather in the Future Classroom Lab in Brussels to attend the pilot Summer School. Co-organised by EU Code Week and Code.org, this unique pilot training opportunity will provide primary school Leading teachers with tools, hands-on workshops and training resources to implement computational thinking and coding in their classrooms.

This four-day training aims to expand the teachers’ knowledge of computational thinking and coding by exploring the EU Code Week methodology and the exclusive programme Computer Science Fundamentals from the Code.org curriculum to develop more effective mechanisms to implement coding in schools.

Moreover, the teachers will receive tools to pass on this knowledge to their community of teachers and will be encouraged to create new learning resources, as well as become
mentors of the EU Code Week Deep Dive Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) planned for September 2019.

Finally, a certificate of attendance, certified by both European Schoolnet and the European Commission will be awarded to participants, as well as recognition of the individual work of each teacher involved in the pilot Summer School.

If you are a primary Leading Teacher from one of the 28 EU countries and interested in taking part in the pilot Summer School, please make sure to have a look at the selection criteria and apply here. Make sure to apply as soon as possible, as the deadline is 6 June 2019 at 23:59 CEST.

If you are not a Leading Teacher but are still interested in taking part in these free training opportunities, make sure to register for the Icebreaker MOOC, join the EU Code Week Facebook group for teachers and follow us on Twitter to discover free training opportunities for teachers in the future.

Note: The EU Code Week network currently consists of 280 Leading Teachers and counting, who have been selected to promote computational thinking and coding activities as well as EU Code Week in their countries. This growing community of Leading Teachers is part of a network of approximately 90 EU Code Week ambassadors and 24 education ministry
coordinators (Edu Coordinators) who have helped the initiative reach more schools in the EU and Western Balkans than ever before, and an unprecedented 2.7 million participants in 2018.
