Scratch EU Code Week game

Publication date: September 24, 2014

One of the coolest activities that will be run during EU Code Week is the distributed and collaborative development of an app with the participation of kids attending different events from all over Europe. This project, called Pan-European app, has been designed by Alessandro Bogliolo, the Italian ambassador for EU Code Week.

Taking a look at the events website, we have checked that there are several events designed for kids with no prior coding experience that will use Scratch as an introductory tool. Therefore, inspired by Alessandro’s app, we have started to develop a similar application for Scratch, which could be used as a starting point in EU Code Week events where students could remix it and enhance its functionality by adding questions and games.

Adding new questions or games is extremely easy, as we have included comments in the different scripts of the sprites that will be very helpful for those who try to modify the code. If you are thinking of running an event for beginners, you may use this project as a sample of what can be achieved when people collaborate to get a common goal.

Do you fancy giving it a try? If you have any questions, feel free to contact us.
