By Voula Karypidou, Leading Teacher Greece

What are the top three reasons why everyone / kids should learn how to code?

Coding is an essential skill for the future. It has been described as the new literacy since it is such an important part of the new digital era, coding prepares kids for the jobs of tomorrow. Also, it is an excellent introduction to problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Kids learn to solve complex problems by breaking them down into smaller and simpler tasks, while they improve concentration and focus. Lastly, coding enhances children’s creativity while creating and writing programmes.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to learn coding?

I would advise someone that wants to learn coding to be proficient in at least one coding language, to have patience and especially to enjoy the moments of learning, creating, and building programs.

How do you imagine the future of Code Week to look like?

I imagine a new era at schools and in communities. A lot of people are already celebrating the benefits of coding and see it as the new literacy. This should be advocated during the national and international Code Week.
